This was me when I lost my job

Let me set the scene. It was 2019, and I had been working in retail since 2014. Not that long, but also way too long. I started as a sales associate to pay the bills when I was in college, and then…well, before I knew it, I was a store manager.

With each promotion, I thought I’d like the job more. I’ve always been ambitious, so I thought, “Okay, once I reach the next step, I’ll be happy in this job.” WRONG.

I hated it. Truly. I dreaded every single day I went to work and lived for the 2 days off I got per week. One day, I said out loud to no one, “Get me out of this job. I can’t do this anymore.” The next day, I got word the entire company was closing.

Oops, I didn’t mean to manifest the entire closing of a business. But I knew it was time to officially start my own. So I did.
